I fish a clear water lake where the fish are deep most of the time(20+). A jig pole vertical is the only way I like to fish. The bite is baad finicky most days so I have been thinking about tying on about a 5 ft leader of fluorocarbon to see if I could feel the bite any better. If I'm 15 feet or shallower I would be afraid of any braided line. Just my 2 cents.

I have used a leader on my braid in the past, but it was to see if a floro would get more bites by being less visible, but I didn't see a difference. With the braid having less stretch, I figured it would have a better feel deep. I don't use it pushing or on a jig pole tho, so I don't really know!! So you don't get a better feel from the braid when fishing deep?

Great post... Turn to the pros that know best.. Reason bass pros use glass rods and mono with cranks is because of flexibility and stretch... As Bigger posted earlier without the stretch you will lose fish.. The reason for light action rods and mono is to absorb the shock and pull of a fish, any decent fish has a 10fold chance of pulling free with a rod and line with no give.. I have lost 3 cranks in 3 years and was happy to lose them vs a rod or gears in a reel... Do u use braid slow trolling minnows? Me either, why with cranks it's only a crappie!!

I've snagged way more mono than braid as well.

(BRM you may want to quit reading now because this post may be more than a sentence or two.)

The reason I figure I have is because there is exponentially more mono used than braid. If all those yahoos that threw their mono in the lake were using braid and throwing it in the lake instead, there would be a buch more bandits suspended in a cobweb of braided line.
My point is this. Braid is super tough with zero stretch and when you snag it with a crankbait, you probably ain't gonna see that bait again till the next winter when the Corp draws the lake down. As Bobby Bouche's mamma would say, " datbraid is da debil!" I might tend to agree.
