I dont think its as much boat speed as it is boat controll and presenting the bait as long as possible to the fish that ur after..fishing shallow(spring and fall) I use quarter oz weights if any at all.. I would suggest get in the boat with someone that dont mind teaching (carl painter AKA feelay). One day in the boat with him = endless costly hours on ur own trien to figure it out...

This is the best advise you are gonna get rite here, I have been in the boat with Feelay and G3 both and had a great day. With G3 we were pulling cranks but the time was great.
I personnally have not devoted much time to this style of fishing, just hasnt appealed to me enuff. These 2 guys know the craft and are willing to help someone who is honestly looking to learn.
Hope to get the chance to slow troll with G3 some if I can ever get Callaway out of that dang seat!!!!!banghead
