If you are just gettingstarted i dont recommed butla, its the hardest lake i have ever fished under normal conditions and its worse at low water. Give sardis a shot.As far as rigs go a capps & colemen type rig is good starter rig, from there the sky is the limit. If you want to learn about crappie fishing, this is the place to do it.Great bunch on here.

I was running caps n Coleman style rigs that I tied but its almost like the jigs aren't trailing each right.I'm using Lowrance elite 4 gps and I've read maintaining speed is critical. I don't think the speed on the gps is accurate. Should mypole tips be bouncing using 1 oz weights. The lines are completely vertical or is that incorrectes is

No expert here for sure...BUT! I have heard and I prefer that the lines are vertical with maybe a slight rearward angle. Wind and boat traffic (in other words waves) will make your lines jump and there ain't much that I have found that will stop the occasional jumping.

I dont think its as much boat speed as it is boat controll and presenting the bait as long as possible to the fish that ur after..fishing shallow(spring and fall) I use quarter oz weights if any at all.. I would suggest get in the boat with someone that dont mind teaching (carl painter AKA feelay). One day in the boat with him = endless costly hours on ur own trien to figure it out...
