You've gotten a lot of good advice on here Gator, the only thing I would add is that you have to spend time on the water and try different things. Experience is still the best teacher.

G1, I'm far from an expert, but, I used to get my lines tangled up a lot when I was pulling from the side up front. Used a 6 ft, a 11 ft and a 14 ft on each side.. Short rod in the back. Bad to get in the big motor on turns, gotta kick it in gear to keep it from wrapping in the prop.
now I pull from the back with the same poles, both short ones almost directly behind the boat, 11 ft at about a 30 deg angle and the 14 bout 80 deg, keep the tip bout 10-12 inches off the water on the side poles, back ones angled up bout 30 deg. When I hang a fish I immed raise the rod tip high and work it behind the boat and continue to reel in then net it. I rarely get lines tangled now, even running 15-25 ft diff on each trying to locate, when I do I set them much closer to same length depending on lure size.
TOW has helped a bunch and unless u got someone that knows to go with u, it's TOW for u too..and try all these ideas until u find what works for u. My $.02.
I dun told ya...... Stop using them snap swivels!!!!
If the fish aren't bitting just remember your not at work ! :D
AMEN, this thread is awesome.
Gonna add something else, I very rarely fished with as much as 90 foot of line out last year. The motor spooking fesh is HAWG-WASH in my opinion, caught fish on the inside poles Saturday with 35 foot of line out and a 20 HP four stroke chugging away. the only way I fish more than 75 foot of line is if'n I just cant catch one no other way.
I know Driscol said long on the inside short on the outside but I disagree there as well and I only use 2 foot of seperation. Turning can be tricky but I do like DD does, yeah I said it, turn hard and straighten out for whatever gets my lines back straight and then turn hard again. Can ussualy turn around in a 50 yards circle that way, maybe a little more.
Time on the water is the key and taking some from each of us, man I was green as they come last May but by September was amazed at the difference. Have fun with it, find what works in your boat. I pull off the side to the front as well, makes landing a fesh a breeze with nothing else on the back deck.
