Some do, but they are optional.
You've got surge (hydraulic) over drums, surge over disc and electric over disc generally. Most of the new boats have disc with surge on the mid level and electric on the high end, but you can get them however you want them.

I know that with electric brakes and a controller in your truck, you can apply the trailer brakes by themselves and adjust their strength. That's on a camper trailer, I've never fooled with brakes on a boat trailer.

My GMC truck came from the factory with a electric brake controller ..... it was part of the towing package.

Get a Kodiak disc brake kit and change out those drum brakes. Champion trailer should have anything you need. I like the disc surge brakes.
Pull it with that yeller 4wheeler

Had surge brakes on a 25 ft Celebrity ski boat trailer. They worked great. Only pain in the butt was having to physically lock them out when backing. Other than that, I like them

A 25ft Ski Boat? Wouldn't have thought there were enough celebrities in Buffordville to need a boat that big to take 'em skiing. ??????
