    Default Longliners.......help

I went to my home lake yesterday after work and tried to long line. I caught 19 but stayed tangled up cause I could not get to the poles fast enough or they were running too close to each other. Also the poles on the front of the boat would always get hung up on the main engine. I was running 1.0 to 1.2 mph and had lines running from 9 to 12 ft. Lost a lot of fish cause I could not get to them fast enough. Need some help on set up. Thanks

Torch, I mainly pull mine off the back to keep out of the big motor. I'll even raise the big motor out of the water and let the Ipilot drive. I'll use 4 poles across the back. The middle 2 are 6 foot Phlueger Presidents. Then my outside lines are 10 foot B&M PST's then off the side of the boat I'll have either 12 or 16 foot PST's. Larger hooks in your jigs will hang more fish also.

It just so happens that I became a long lining expert yesterday myself. So what ya wanna know?

I was only running 3 rods, but I staggered the weight with 2 on one side and it seemed to help. Still got a couple of tangles though.

Speck I was running 2 pst 8 ft. 2 pst10 ft, 2 pst 12's and 2 pst14's off the back I was running 2 pst10's and 2 16's on the front. I think that is way too many poles for one guy. I am going back after work and try again.
