LOL, NO SPLICING. It's a pigtail LOOSE wire with the end cap on it. If the wires are touching, it'll ground out the GPS

Getting real info out of you is like getting a compliment out of Triton....I just don't happen. Couldn't figure out what you were talking about on the "pigtail", so I jumped out to H'bird and looked at the manual on the 997 and see what you're talking about now, it's the loose wires split from the head connector for NMEA input.
Yeah, that ain't your problem. Betting you got corrossion on the terminal ends from your salt water mis adventure or you have a short in the wiring from the puck to the unit. If it ain't that, you got a bad unit. Simplest way to verify a puck problem is to hook your head unit to Maj or EZ's and see if you get good signal. If it's not that, you might as well remove the puck and inspect every inch for a crimp, nick or pinch. You'll need it removed to check thoroughly or if you don't find it, you will at least have the old one off in anticipation of the replacement.
Bet it's your terminal connections though.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
Figured you knew what I was talking about. HBird Greg said the pigtail COULD ground it out. Ima try that tomorrow night, then ease over to Majors house and try it on his if that don;t work. IF he don't mind
