I have a 90 two stroke and love it. If I were to re-power, I would go with the four stroke though. I would seriously consider a Suzuki 4 stroke also since they are great motors and I've been told they are cheaper than the Yammies. Oil is getting too expensive. In the larger motors, the new Yamaha SHO 4 stroke is supposed to be the cats meow.

My Yamaha 115 two stroke is 11 years old and have never had a minutes trouble. My dad had a 115 4 stroke that blew all to pieces just after the warranty ran out. Yamaha actually sent a tech down and covered all of the labor expenses and only charged him for the parts. That would be the reasons i would stay with yamahas. Either one would be fine with me. My next one will prolly be a 4 stroke just for the fuel and oil savings. Although I've heard very good things about the Etech. Not opposed to tryin one of them too.

My Yammy 4 stroke is the best outboard I've ever owned.

Well this is kinda a loaded question, How big of a motor are we talking? If its under a 115 i would say the grey 4 strokes for sure. Bullet proof motor. Im not sure how true this is, but I was told that Yammie is not making the HPDI 2 strokers anymore. That narrows your search for BIG motors to the SHO. However the V-MAX HPDI and the V-MAX HPDI Series 2 are awsome high HP motors.

I am on my second Yamaha four stroke....my first was a 115 and I used it for 5 years, now I have a 90. I have had no problems with these motors and I really like them.
