I'm a big fan of Silver/Gray Yammie 4 strokes. Only owned one and now I'm running a black EFI with a fuel line the size of a garden hose and Wal-Mart Quicksilver oil is up to $30 a gallon - bleh!

Anyhow, for most of us, up to 115, the 4 stroke is the way to go. Suzuki goes up to 140 though if you need a little more oomph and I've always heard good things out of them. But bigger is right, for sheer power to weight, you can't beat a 2 stroke and direct injection is the best game in town for that. Not sure if Yammie quite making their large regular 4 strokes. Got confused because on the big salt boats, they had some silver/gray motors that looked like 4 strokes but were actually hpdi's.

I'm still a hold out of the SHO. The Verado was pretty much a bomb due to weight, but seem to be reliable as a they can be. The SHO has overcome the weight somewhat and the power is there, but I'm reserving judgement until some of them pop and see what causes it and what the repairs are like. I keep hearing the block is not repairable due to the alloys used, but don't know if that's true.

Anyway, for the way I fish, if money were no object, regardless of the boat, I'd put the max rated silver/gray Yammie 4 stroke on it. If I couldn't get a 4 stroke of sufficient size, I'd be tempted to go with an SHO (if money were no object)

Sorry guys, I posted in the wrong place. Thanks Slab. Great stuff so far. Thanks for your replies. I AM listening. I also sell the Suzuki, and the Etecs, but wanted your thought as to whether you would purchase an HPDI or the 4-Stroke Yammy, and your experiences with them. Thanks Agsin, and keep em coming.

my thoughts exactly, the gas and oil savings are just crazy, especially gas, HOWEVER, the one time i would buy a two stroke is for duck hunting , jumping logs, ect. that 4 stroke is soooo heavy to lift up and down.

When I was forced to repower from my evinrude I went with the yammy 200 sho. I have only ran it for 20 hours now but so far I definitely like it. My hole shot is better and the top end is 9 mph faster than the evinrude 2 stroke was. As far as quiet goes..ask DD. I was on the phone with him running 50 mph and he could not hear my motor and I could hear him well enough to carry on a conversation with no trouble at all.

Well wait till the timing belt breaks and bends every valve in the motor and you have a repair bill for more than the motor is worth. I like changing my oil everytime I run my motor.

I have a touring bass pro buddy that put a Susuki 4 stroke 200hp on his Ranger and he said he would never own anything else but a Susuki 4 stroke.

Ive only sold three of the 200 SHO's, so I'm still waiting to see also. Over all though no problems. That's from Yamaha.

I was told by a yammi dealer that the grey 4 strokes were too slow out of the hole for big glass boats unless you were running duals. To get the hole shot you would have to prop it way down and the motor would be running higher than suggested rpms and it would blow. The sho and other supercharged 4 strokes are a different animal tho.
    Stick yo jig in there!
