DonG - Do you ever move your HB unit? The majority of the time I am fishing out the back of the boat pulling jigs or cranks... But I want to have the capability up front also since I am a multi-species fisherman... If I had a stand like yours, the majority of the time it would just be a gimble mount and wires.... I could remove the stand/pole at will but then would still need to do something with the wires....

I am starting to think a telescopic pole with the wire ran inside the pole. Then on top of the telescopic pole place about a 4"x4" plate to mount a Ram D-111U mount. When in use... use the Ram mount with Gimble attached to top of Ram mounting plate. When not in use remove the upper part of the Ram mount and leave just the ball and wires on top of the telscopic pole and lower the pole to the lowest setting....

    Ideas? Upgrades? What ya think?

Well if I go bass fishing, it would be nice to sight fish with the SI. The other day I was vertical jigging a spoon for stripers and you could follow the spoon on the 2D sonar and actually see the fish you were jigging for on 2D. This enabled me to put it right in their face.

For crappie fishing, I want to be able to see the jig in 2D sonar so I can place the jig right in front of them. It think it would be a real fun style of fishing and would work well in cold weather months when you can find them in groups but they want it right in front of their face.

So mainly I would like it for the 2D sonar but having the SI in shallow water for bass fishing would be nice also. The maps while casting also help you to see the direction you are casting in case you are fishing a small ledge, ditch, etc...

My post is a Hi-Tek rod holder post...Attaches to a base so it can be removed..The top plate was made by a friend to accommodate my 898..This set-up is good for "old eyes"

I can move my unit but I don't..Probably get a 998 or 1198 for the console later..I am not a troller or crank bait puller so I mainly use my up front unit looking under docks or bridge pilings to cast to..

No problem fellas.. thank you for the help...

EZ - You think you could build something like i described below:

I am starting to think a telescopic pole with the wire ran inside the pole. Then on top of the telescopic pole place about a 4"x4" plate to mount a Ram D-111U mount. When in use... use the Ram mount with Gimble attached to top of Ram mounting plate. When not in use remove the upper part of the Ram mount and leave just the ball and wires on top of the telescopic pole and lower the pole to the lowest setting.... Then I could use one Ram mount and an extra base. Put one base on the 4"x4" plate and the other at my console... If my fiberglass console will hold it... ha.

I sure have some ideas for a solution to your request, but it's plain to see, I can't give away all my secrets.... Then DD and WB would know what they know and what I know and they would be way smarter than the average, can't have that now, can we?? However, if they would tell me what they know and I could put it with what I know and I would then tell them what I know and we would all be........ I'm not sure what we'd be...
Let me know when you wanna come by and we'll make a plan..
