Another example of socialist corruption!

I guess by now, everyone has heard about the "welfare" cell phones that our gov't is handing out to low income persons. Well, the company that is providing the service is obviously gigging the gov't in every possible way.

I got a package in the mail the other day. When I opened it I found a brand new Keocera cell phone with 250 free minutes each month. I called the company to ask what the deal was. They confirmed it was a gov't funded "welfare" phone. I asked them why I received one and they said that I had applied, I did not! I asked them to send me a copy of my application and they said they couldn't find it. Now I ain't rich, but my wife and I live pretty darn comfortably. There is no way in heck that I should be getting any type of assistance.

It chaps my hide that our tax dollars are giving a bunch of shiftless low lifes free cell phones to begin with. But, the fact that there obviously isn't any oversight in place as to whom they send the phones, really steams me! I'm sure the company that is supplying the phone service is getting a fat gov't check for every phone that is activated. Why else would they randomly mail out phones? Even worse, the company isn't even an American one, it's a division of Virgin mobile!

I'm done ranting now, I feel a little better. Anyone else been sent one of these phones?

I'd be a little leary of you being the target of identity theft there Feelay. Not sure how that program works, but normally a SS# is required to activate a cell phone, along with all the other info. Somebody out there might just have your info.

I'd question DD imediately if I were you. He was just saying the other day how he wished he was more like you.

No telling. Crooks aren't known for being smart. If I'm right, the trouble is...somebody out there used your info to do what they want. And they still have your info.

I have to agree with Wannabe on this one Feelay, you have to watch it with cell phone companies. I am only 25 and I have already had my SS # stolen by an illegal immigrant in Miami and also found out in a separate and
unrelated incident around Christmas of this year that someone had opened up a cell phone account in North Carolina with my name and SS #, I got a bill for something like $1500, I talked to them and resolved the issue but was still worried that it was going to somehow erroneously effect my credit report, luckily I found out about it before that happened. But nevertheless, I would make sure that no one has already opened an account in your name or something.
