You have to have a long shaft motor 20" shaft on a 20" transom, when you start to look for a great deal on a used motor it is a lot easier to find a short shaft motor vs long shaft.
My kicker motor on my big boat is a short shaft on a tall transom and it works fine but it is just being used as a trolling motor.

Keep your line tight !
My answer is no, wb...i dont think the boat will plane. Me, I like a short transom, with a short shaft motor.
id go tall if your running the river ect. but short if your like running canals and bayous and jumping logs. imho
ADAPT OR DIE
AND KEEP THE CHANGE-HANK JR.
Tall transom is the way to go the only difference is 5" but when backing the boat in the lake or banking the boat 5" can be just enough to keep her a float. Yes the long shafts are a little harder to find but worth it.
NO!!! You can not run a short shaft on a tall transom other than at idol it will tear the foot up and the water impeller it will run hot and the next thing you know Kaaaabbbbuuullleeee!!!!
If the fish aren't bitting just remember your not at work ! :D
