    Question Another i-pilot question........

I just bought an i-pilot for my Tracker 175 that already has a Motor Guide on it. To remove the Motor Guide mount, is there nuts underneath the deck? I have a long rod storage box in the middle of the bow - but I won't be able to fit in it to access the bolts!!!!! Any idea how the Motor Guide is mounted? Thanks for your help.

I would guess nuts underneath. My question is if you can't get to them, how are you gonna get your new one mounted.

You should rubber screw holders in the mount going into the hull. This is if it was factory installed. The rubber grumets squeeze up when the screw is tighten down.. The holds should match up on your new mount but you might want to replace the grumets.
If you need anymore info, you might check with Sir WB.

Yep, them holes ain't gonna line up. If you get lucky, you'll be able to re-use 1 set, but that will be it.

Here's the nuts Hollic was talking about....have my Terrova mounted with em and have worked well. Basically, it's a brass set of threads on the end. As you tighten them up, it' expands the rubber on the sleeve and grips the hole. One word of caution, it's hard to tighten them up enough due to the give in the rubber. For your first 3 or 4 trips out, be sure to check them again. I had 2 that tried to back out on me. One added benefit is the motor will rest on a rubber pad isolating any vibration and preventing scuffs to the hull...then again, it's a smal gap and collects dust and dirt under there bad that is hard to clean if you're a neat freak. One other bad thing is it takes a honking hole to put 'em through...something like 1/4 inch or larger if I remember correctly and may not.

I think I have the MinnKota version of these nuts, but may have been MGs.

Okay fellas - I knew someone here on the MS forum would know! It was factory installed, so it shouldn't be too bad. I didn't think about removal/installation when I ordered the i-pilot. Thanks again!

Perfect thanks! Should I apply lots of silicone while I am at it?

Did a little more research....was thinking Minn Kota has a similar deal, but all I found was what they call "Quick Nuts"...I've seen these on boats before.....total crap...DO NOT USE THESE!!!!!!!

Silicone the old holes, but the rubber will make an excellent seal on the new ones so I wouldn't worry about them.....now, when I say silicone...what I really mean is marine sealant...specifically 3M 5200, which is permanent and non-removable...don't use some junk you fixed the bath tub with last year. Also, if you decide to silicone the new holes (which I wouldn't) don't use the 5200 for that, use 4200, which is less permanent and can be removed with a bunch of elbow grease.

One last thing...I don't know what's under that metal on your hull, but I hope there's some sort of backer board....If not, I'd want something under there to spread the load and prevent some metal fatigue on that aluminum deck....that would be a whole new ball of wax if you have limited access, but you need something. The Terrova is a honker with a small mount so there's a lot of stress on the mounting holes.
