Default More Battery Talk.. Since I'm a gewb

I'm about to buy 2 trollers and 1 cranking. My max $$$ is about $100 each on the trollers.

I've been staring at the compairison chart http://www.propickupmag.com/files/20...ison-Chart.pdf and I want to be sure what I'm looking at.

Is column CCA referring to cold cranking amps? What are the AH and RC columns? I want to make sure that I get the most bang for my buck. Oh yeah, and I don't and won't have a terrova yet (hopefully will in another year), but it is my full intension to troll these a batteries til death all day. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

WB, thanks for trying to hook me up the other day. I'm still wondering if I should have pounced on that deal. Just scared of the gel until I hear some first-hand reports.

Get Group 31 deep cycle batteries....not all group 31's are the same as they come in different amp ratings....get the ones with the highest amp ratings.....do not cheap out on batteries.......if you do , it will kick you in the butt and cost you more in the long run. Get a good onboard charger and use it. Check your battery water once a month and add only distilled water.

Oh, and much to my suprise, the boat already had an onboard charger. Bonus for me since it was never mentioned when buying the boat. I've been trying to download a picture, but it doesn't seem to be working for me today. Anyway this appears to be the same one that's on the boat except mine is an '01 model.

You have a two bank charger. You will need one with three banks, one for eack troller batt and one for the cranking battery. Looking at that charger( its a 10 amp and it puts out 5 amps per bank....it would be better to have one with 10 amps per bank. If you use the one you have and connect one bank to the cranking bat and the other bank to two trollers you have wired in paralell.....you will be charging the cranking battery with 5 amps and your trollers will take twice as long to charge with only one bank putting out 5 amps which with the two batts will be equivelent to 2 and a half amps per batt......take a long time to charge that way. Yep....you need to add a three bank charger with 10 amps per bank to your shopping list. Fishing is fun but its expensive.
