oleblue.....I think you will really like that unit.
G3 I thank so too from what I have read online and from u guys even WB I thank it's the right way for me to go at this time..
One day I will get me a tv like y'all got that way I can watch sports and fish......LOL
WB is right about the durability factor on that 480. Over the years I've had mine it has been on several different boats, used as a portable, left out in the weather and not 1 single problem with it. Another cool thing about them is that the ducer and plug fit a lot of other Eagle and Lowrance units so it's really easy to move them around in the boat or use them on multiple boats, whatever.
Any ideas On what to do with the big hole that's gonna be In the dash when I take the old unit out was thanking about making an I-pod holder or maby a little storage box.
Can you not surface mount the new unit in the dash or on the dash or something? just kinda thinking out loud here.
The 480 is much larger and I can't make the hole bigger with out rearranging all my gauges. But thanks for the input keep the ides coming.
If ya got any metal skills, a small storage box is always a good thing. Keys, wallet, cell phone, hunnert dolla bills...whatever.
Past that, you're looking at cutting a new hole. What I see most often and what looks the best is to just leave the existing FF there and RAM mount the new one. That's prolly what I'd do since I don't have any skills and my make me a domahitchie man - Slabo doesn't like me any more.
Wannabe...
I'd leave the old one in the existing hole and ram mount the new. If that's not an option I'd take the measurements of the hole to a sheet metal shop and have a plate cut. You can paint the plate and attach by small bolts to cover the hole.
