Outbreaks of influenza in animals, especially when happening simultaneously with annual outbreaks of seasonal influenza in humans, increase the chances of a pandemic, through the merging of animal and human influenza viruses. During the last few years, the world has faced several threats with pandemic potential, making the occurrence of the next pandemic a matter of time.
I was on the Tn pandemic committee in my other life. It just a matter of time. Bird flu virus will hit in the near future. There is no known cure (antibiotic). Immunization does help to a degree. No BS here.
Kids and older folks are at high risk.
Your choice. I want be able to tell you "I told you so" when it happens.

I got mine and will be fishing while all of you rebels who hold out are in bed moaning the blues...I have had the flu 2 times but not in the past 5 years since I have been getting the shot.. Mabey just by luck but mabey not. Who really knows.
How well the flu vaccine works depends on how well the match is between the influenza (flu) vaccine and the types of flu viruses that are circulating that year. Scientists try to predict what strains (types) of flu viruses are most likely to spread and cause illness each year to put into the vaccine. In years when the vaccine strains and the virus strains are well-matched, the vaccine can reduce the chances of getting the flu by 70%-90% in healthy adults. The vaccine may be somewhat less effective in elderly persons and very young children, but vaccination can still prevent serious complications from the flu.
In healthy adults less than 65 years of age, the flu vaccine can also prevent lost work days, and keep you from having to see the doctor or using unnecessary antibiotics.

I've gotten the flu shot every year for the past 5 years and every year I still get the flu. I don't have good luck with staying healthy. I know the shot doesn't keep you 100% from getting the flu but it is supposed to help if you do get it by making it last less and have less severe symptoms.
