One of the guys I worked with decided he was going to catch himself a gator. 5/16" stainless rod was bent, sharpened, welded together and welds built up so the barbs could be ground in. 1/4" aircraft cable was the line of choice. A whole chicken was the bait. Weekend comes and this fiasco was underway. As Gator headed out through the waste deep water with a handmade heavy duty 50/0 treble hook complete with whole chicken slung over his back with the hook dangling behind. Buy the light of a $1 flashlight he steps off in a hole about 200' from the bank. Upon stepping into the hole he jerks and sets the hook firmly in his own backside. The resulting paim causes him to yell and drop the flashlight. Gator is out there in the inky darkness, half sober hollering that the water moccasins have gotten him in the butt. He is hollering that every time he tries to swat the one that is bitting his butt away another one would bite his hand. After an agonizing eternity Gator makes is back to shore where his friends assess the damage of the snake bites. They soon discovered that the handy dandy super treble hook was what had bit Gator's butt. To make matters worse Gator's drunkest friend volunteered to remove the hook. Once firmly grasping the narliset of hooks. Gator's most impaired friend lost his balance and fell pulling Gator back on top of himself hook and all. Resulting in a trip to the emergency room for both. My part in the story you ask? I welded the hook together.![]()
