No shirt, No shoes, No service. I have seen signs where they asked that you not have your pants that way. We need them at work.

I was on a construction site where we all know you should wear clothing that different then what you would wear for pleasure. One day at a safety meeting they had to send one man home to change clothes. He was wearing jogging pants. One other clothing issue I have is people wear pajama pants to go shopping. So what if they are joe boxer. I am not aware of that company making suits.

As I understand it .... it started back in the early 90's and was likely the result of prison inmates not being allowed belts to hold up their ill fitting prison pants, which was then emulated by some rap artists (whom were likely ex-cons, themselves) as a sign of being "gangsta" and not to be trifled with ... which them bled into the black community as a "fashion statement of street cred" to announce that the wearer may be an ex-con, and to be feared, or as an emulation of their favored rap star. It crept into more mainstream use by other ethnic groups, as a bonding or imitation statement that "they" were as "cool" or "gangsta" as the originators of the fad.

    IMHO -
The fact that it is trashy, tacky, and disrespectful is the point .... it's done, by those that don't feel like they fit in to societies idea of whom they should be, to "belong" to the crowd of disenfranchised youth that think the black/gangsta/gangbanger/anti-social/rap star wannabes are more cool than the suit/tie group, nerds, or the normal working class. It's a way to show their rebellion against the societal norm.

we got a principle in one of our troubled high schools which is the last place for these trouble making young kids to get educated and once you get kicked out of this school you are done as far as education is concerned in South Carolina ; anyways he stands at the front door every morning with what he calls his chiller a big guy about 7 foot tall and mean as heck if you walk thru them doors and your pants are like that he yells on a bull horn to pull your pants up and if they fall again the chiller grabs them the principle puts a big old black tiewrap around them to hold the pants up makes them stand right where they are and calls the parents to come and get them take them home and get a belt or don't come back !!!! this man has turned a bad school into one of the best High School in the State !!!!

I saw a group today walking thru the Walmart parking lot. Heads down on their cell phones. Walking aimlessly like a pack of zombies oblivious to what was around them.

But on the GOOD side of the trend- the police absolutely LOVE it ! Watched "Cops" last night as a young white boy punk gangsta rapper was chased by police, got 1/2 way across a busy street and down his pants go around his ankles ! The police officer easily caught him, coffee still in hand. The cops asked the cuffed gangsta rapper punk-wanna be to please ask ALL of his young fellow criminals to stay with that fashion statement as "It makes our job SO much easier..." Remember, there is a positive to almost anything...

How can you get in any trouble with one hand holding your pants up and on your cell phone with the other.
