One thing to look into if you happen to use hearing aids. Sometimes they can program in a masking frequency that has a canceling effect on the Tinitus. Seems like it doesn't work for a lot of people, but for some it seems to work very well. My father, who was around big guns in the service and has it, says the hearing aid masking has helped a great deal.

My aids have this feature.The VA lady set the masking. It aint working too good.

From the looks of your avatar you possibly could be a few years older than me. Your post got my attention. Left year problems, sometimes are attributed to auditory processing issues. Which i have been diagnosed with.
Do you have auditory processing issues? Just curious. i was diagnosed with in my late 30's. I've learned somewhat how to block outside noises to compensate.

Common difficulties include

• Talks louder than necessary;
• Remembering a list or sequence;
• Often needs words or sentences repeated;
• Poor ability to memorize information learned by listening;
• Interprets words too literally;
• Hearing clearly in noisy environments.
• Accommodation and modification strategies
• Find or request a quiet work space away from others.
• Request written material when you attend oral presentations.
• Ask for directions to be given one at a time, as you go through each step.
• Take notes or use a tape recorder when getting any new information, even little things.

I have never been diagnosed with that but I do have several of the symptoms mentioned above. My tinnitus started in earnest in 1996 when I had a bad reaction to the anesthetic used on my 3rd rotator cuff surgery. Our company doctor just always blamed it on shotgun noise.

I have suffered with this for years. Right side has one freq.....left side a different freq....Cicadas in the middle. Always there.......it really sucks.

I used to play in rock and roll bands. I have really bad tinnitus caused by that. I also have a pretty bad hearing loss (which usually goes along with tinnitus), for which I have to wear hearing aids in both ears. My tinnitus sounds like a field full of insects on a warm summer evening, along with random clickings and buzzings. The hearing aids help mask the tinnitus during the day. At night I use a fan to sleep to help cover up the sound. I also have a sound maker that makes white noise (kind of like the sound of rain) that helps cover it up, which I take with me if I am going to stay at a hotel or something.

Did your tinnitus happen suddenly??? If so, you need to see a doctor, as it could be the sign/symptom of something else besides being noise induced. Some medications can cause it and some medical conditions other than exposure to loud sounds can cause it.

No sudden loss. Tinnitus has increased tremendously in volume over the years. Started when I was in service at the Pacific Missile Range 1966. I went to Dr at Point Mugu and they gave me a new pair of ear muffs. That was the military fix.
