    Default Headlight restoration

Both my cars are over 10 years old which means my headlights are cloudy. I had tried a couple of the bottled "fixes" that they sell at the Auto Parts store, none of which worked.
I saw this at Lowes the other day in the section where the sandpaper pads are displayed and decided to try it and by golly it works!
You have to take your time and keep the headlamp wet while sanding, but it will clean it up good as new. One note though, I went through 3 battery charges in my cordless drill by the time I did both cars. Took about 30 to 40 minutes per car.
There are 3 grades of sandpaper (800, 1500 and 2000) plus a buffing pad and some polishing compound.
Cost of kits was $20. It will do several cars.

That looks really good. I've tried some of those "fixes in a bottle" and you're right, money thrown down the toilet.

I think the liquid stuff that i bought earlier is probably polishing compound which is what you use in the final step in this kit. The kit comes with a tiny bottle of the compound so I am thinking if I do anymore I can use the bottle I bought earlier.
There is enough in the kit to do maybe 4 cars.

A friend of mine owns a Dr Vinyl shop and does mine for free. We do different things for each other so it works out about right. EB

I was a detailer for a long time. You can buy the same sand paper and just use water for a lot cheaper. You can make it last forever by getting a can of clear coat and applying with a sponge. If not it will come back

I've used the Maguires headlight restore stuff in a bottle and had good results. I do have to do 2x/yr, but for 20 minutes every 6 months, not bad. I do put a coat of wax on the headlight lenses when I'm done. SR, do you have to put a new coat or 2 on the lenses since you used the sandpaper. Read on some car forums the clearcoat is needed to seal the plastic up again since that is what you remove?
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
