Good post Cappy. I myself have done the 'heebie geebie' dance a time or two walking through the woods looking in the trees. They may be harmless and beneficial, but I always imagine them big enough to take a chunk outta my nose or leave me as a dried husk on the ground....at least that's what I'm thinking while I'm dancing and hollering to get the web off me.![]()
I totally understand....I can remember many mornings walking down an old 4 wheeler path, and looking around for any deer or signs of deer and walk in to one of their 10 ft wide webs across the roadway....last thing I remember seeing was this huge spider right in my face as I was engulfed in the web.........you just can't move fast enough to get out of it.....and where is that spider anyway.....puts chills on me now to just think about it....those things are huge.....and ugly....

I figured my post would stir yall up.All country boys have stories to tell about them. I usta squirrel hunt carrying a cane pole in my left hand standing in front of me to knock them down. In the yard we enjoy them. As long as they not in the way.

Out here regular too. Been seeing them the last few weeks. Ann ran into this one while feeding the goats, web so strong nearly knocked her down:
Sorry about the blurred picture. In the yard regular now while I cut the grass and tend to things. Interesting they will span a web across trees 10 feet apart. Guess they climb a tree and anchor a spot, then climb down and walk across the ground to climb another tree and up to start a web (I tend to think about such things). Then, when I'm passing through a couple of times and knock them down, they'll do the same - but about 10 feet higher. Out of my way, and theirs. We co-exist. Life in the country.

We try to let every thing cept the fire ants alone. The only time i will take out a wasp nest is if its in a bad place, like on the boat trailer or some where We have 3 big yellow jacket nests on our shed and we ignore them they ignore us. They are good pollinators and small pest predators.

Question?
If banana spiders come out in the fall, where do they stay the rest of the year?
