With over 300 drilling rigs working in West Texas now, many of those boys are out there roughnecking on 12 hour tours just as I did in the West Texas heat many years ago. Before long, they'll leave the rigs and begin two-a-days. Nothing but a thing they'll say. I have my aches and pains as well, yet regret nothing. Builds character.

The boys there don't wear helmets when they ride bicycles either.

Guess all the former football players that have assaulted people or been in trouble missed the character part, of which humbleness should be a large part. Tell the Momma's who lose their son's to heat exhaustion and heart trouble this year how much it helped their son's character. The rich coaches benefit off them though. I also know about 12 hour shifts and staying outside in the heat fighting problems in the oil/chemical industry. Spent many of them at work. Did not help anything for my character, just made me tired. Very few actual players benefit from football. i like watching it some, but I can see through the hype and share what I think it really is.High school is training for the few that make it up to college, college for the fewer that make it to the pro's, pro's for the entertainment of the people who control betting. As I said earlier, this is my opinion I am entertaining.

They'd run you out of town on a stagecoach from where I'm from with such a blasphemous statement. You're right though, little Johnny would be safer on the couch, except for an occasional trip to Walmart in a vehicle.

Finished shoveling another two yards of topsoil in this heat off the trailer to cover the live oak roots exposing in the yard. I likes such things. It's like my hero once wrote "An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force."

Got to check on the ribs here shortly, then back to work. I don't for sprinkles on my cupcakes.

I think this heat and humidity is getting to some of us, so I'm being kind to myself and staying cool calm and collected.

So you say. I was once the most wanted outside linebackers in the South. Played high school football for fun, then called it good afterwords. Had other things to do, like many of us then, and today. Found this along with several other letters from various universities:

We did it for fun. Make sure little Johnny takes his vitamins while on the couch.

Randy I think you made a wise decision by going to A & M and getting a degree in Engineering for sure. Chicks dig smart guys too. Can you imagine what it would be like to go to college on a fishing scholarship now days?

My oldest grandaughter went to college on a full scholarship for running cross country. She is working on her masters now....no more running for school but she still runs 8 miles everyday just to stay in shape and because she likes it.
