Very sharp man you are Gene. Encouraging sales is true. The De Beers cartel successfully advertised diamonds to manipulate consumer demand in the same fashion. The cartel employed "A Diamond Is Forever" in the 40's I believe, along with the "eternity ring", etc. Huge monopoly for sure. Since then the diamond is the "engagement ring" to be had, or I should say, to have.
