    Default Galvanized or aluminum?

Trailer time... I was about ready to purchase a new aluminum trailer for my 16 foot boat (my boat is all aluminum with 3/16" bottom and 1/8" sides, pretty heavy) when I stopped at a local trailer parts shop I dealt with for years. They said aluminum trailers do not hold up well because of the rough highways we have around here. Anyway, if any of you have had insight into the trailers that are out there right now, share the info. The plus side to the galvanized trailer I have now, I can weld up most repairs. Hope the new trailers are at least as good as the old ones....BC

I'm on my 3rd aluminum trailer. (different boats) I think they hold up great. Never had a problem with the road rattle and I think they are better if you fish salt water. However, there are some parts on an aluminum trailer that are galvanized. Usually the axle, bolts, board screws and brackets. Still will rust with saltwater use and time. I always wash my trailer as soon as it comes out of saltwater. That said I would recommend aluminum.
