When a man owns something as great as an Ford Truck he can take pride in it and doesn't mind spending the extra time keeping fresh oil, tires, and brakes for it. Chris, what kind of rice does your truck burn, long grain, wild, or instant? I can see where a Toyota truck owner would rather poke fun at someone elses Ford so they can ignore their own shortcomings.LOL!

I was working outside this morning--it was raining and 53F. Surely this is not the type of weather for working outside! So logically, I clocked out and went fishing instead.

I was in such a hurry to hit the water, that I forgot both the Lowrance and the Humminbird! Blind on Jordan Lake! Oh well. Although I can't say for sure, I'm pretty sure the fishing was bit off since about half of the fish were barely hooked (and that I had fewer bites overall). I still had fun catching crappie, but the highlight was catching a 5lb 5oz striper on 6lb mono and a #4 jig hook. I've never caught a striper I couldn't lift in the boat and for some reason I thought I'd heard they had a tooth or two...but after a "lip" of faith, I had two reasons to breathe a sigh of relief. He's in the freezer along with the crappie. I also caught a 7lb 4oz catfish...yuck! Most fish caught south of 64.

One week until my Dad drops in for a few days.

I caught most of my fish just north of the 64 bridge--in fact, I'm pretty sure I was near where "I mac" caught his yesterday. I caught about 30 keepers on brush piles today--and about 20 of those came off of one in particular. I think the color made a huge difference today, plus being able to watch my jig on the depth finder. I would literally hold the jig inches above the brush pile--any deeper and I would be retying (and I did many times). I watched several fish come up and hit my jig. Minnows would catch fish too, but jigs were the most effective crappie hoist today. I hope this pattern holds for my parents visit late this coming week! Farrrington was loaded with some kind of non-biting fish---didn't get a bite up there and didn't see anyone else pull one in. I stayed on the brush using a marker buoy thrown upwind from the spot. The wind was moderate and steady, and my trolling motor was very tired by the end of the day. If I go again tomorrow, I will be without my best color...I left them all in the brush piles! Thank you all for the Jordan reports; you helped put me on fish today.

Thanks for your record keeping. I've been thinking the water is a good bit warmer than normal for this time of year. I looked at the Army Corps website for the daily update on Jordan and it listed the temperature Wednesday at 68. Your report from last year has the temp at 61.5, which confirms my thinking. After the low temps the next few nights, the crappie should finally start their Fall migration.

Record keeping is a big part of my research job...I just can't seem to turn it off:) I'll hopefully remember my electronics next time and will be able to report on water temp. Also, Jordan Limit et al, as I mentioned in that November 2009 report, it's your reports that put me on the fish--I hope I can return the favor to some capacity.

I'll probably hit the water tomorrow--hope to see you all there!

First, thank you Chief for putting me on some of the best fishing in the lake as well as the most out of the rain spot on the lake. Regardless, I still didn't wear enough clothes to stay warm.
My best jig color was gold/chart. 10-16' down over 20'. I had 5 over 1.5lbs. Minnow rigs just didn't catch anything for me today. Tomorrow I will go out with out minnows! I think everyone around Farrington caught fish today. I noticed one boat outfishing everyone (which means they were absolutely wearing them out ALL DAY)...they were in about 17-20'...I caught a couple in their vicinity and marked tons more, but they didn't want what I had to offer...just what the other boat had to offer. Never got close enough to tell what the to fellas were using, but I think it included minnows.
I'm tired of cleaning fish. I'm going again tomorrow, but I'm only keeping big ones (if I can catch any tomorrow) By the way, this is the first time I've actually had success at Farrington.

Also, I'd love to know what the results of the crappie tourney was today...a pretty ghostly sight this misty morning seeing all the lantern clad boats sifting through skeletons of trees.

Good show kid- I can't believe you couldn't get them on brown and chartruese.

Its kinda interesting to see what colors are working for people on differnt bodies of water.. For ex. yesterday on the Eno, the best color (for me) seemed to be "Pumkin Seed"

Again, my best jig color was gold/chart. I pretty much monopolized the color by the end of the day. No minnows. 10-16' down over 20'. I had 6 over 12".

Even though it was about 28F starting out this morning, I think it felt colder as the wind picked up. This morning, the fish were biting as fast and in the same pattern as yesterday...before the sun peeked over the trees, the fish were 10-12' down, but as soon as the reddish orange reflection painted a line across the lake, the fish moved down to 15' (and this happened literally in less than 5 minutes). From 6:30-7:50, I had already boated 12 keepers averaging over 11"; but about 7:50am, the fishing slowed tremendously (again, all at once). Before I pulled the boat off the water, I looked around in 13-16'--the same water Chief found them in Friday. Lots of fish there too, but they weren't biting.

I picked up PG24 at the Farrington ramp around 9:00am. I know full well that fish are as successful at escaping his hook as they would be escaping the gravitational pull of a neutron star, so I did my best to ensure the back of the boat did not get over any fish--yet he still caught the co-biggest crappie of the day. I tried, anyway.

Also, CrappieCrazy was at Farrington with some cohorts. You could build subdivision in his boat and still have room to fish! I saw them ripping some lips.

There were more fish moving amidst the trestles today than yesterday, but I think sometimes the weather shouts louder than the high volume of fish.

Both yesterday and today I noticed that I got more bites and bigger fish when I set the trolling motor ludicrous speed--bursting 10' this way or that. I actually set the jigs 1'-2' under the fish, so that each time I goosed the boat, the jigs arched up through the strike zone, and then settled back through it.

They were around the 64 bridge this time last year...and at the same water temp. Did anyone fish there today?

I'll be back on the water Friday with my Dad...leave some for us!!!

Good read Jeremy, as usual... it sounds like you, PG24 and CrappieKrazy's crowd had a good time of it yesterday at Farrington Bridge.
I have just got to make a trip to Farrington or Ebanezer before long.
