Funny you should mention that cause I was thinking the same thing the other day. The crappie were hitting real hard but not holding on. Not the normal nibble then a slow bow in the rod, but a hard thump like the WB. I never thought about why they were doing it but your logic makes perfect sense. Competition
Crat, It seemed like the crappie bite on Jordan slowed down big time last week, but I haven't been lately to see if it turned back on. Last Thursday afternoon was the worst trip I've had out there as far as catching fish goes. It looked like they turned on for the tournament on Saturday according to the reports. So maybe it's the weather that have the fish slowed down. They're biting on the eno pretty good, just not the big boys like you're used to. ;)
Thanks for the reports! I haven't been out there in a few weeks now, it's about time I give it a shot.

Well, I fished Farrington and haven't figured out the technique yet. I'm sure I would have caught a few but the wind won. Me and PG24 decided to head to the Raleigh Parks Lake--still no Black Crappie. One White. Where did they go on that lake!?
Frustrating Saturday...but a productive Sunday in the garden
Thanks for the report Crat.....you will get them dialed in again...I have confidence in you.

My parents are visiting from Illinois this weekend. My mom enjoyed the grand tour of Raleigh with The lady I board with. Dad and I hit Jordan. We had our rain gear and used it too. It rained so much I forgot it was raining. I was happy to finally catch a few decent crappie. My dad outfished me 10-3 on keepers--I was reminded that he is the one who taught me how to fish. We caught the biggest keepers and probably the most keepers in 16-20', but we got into good biting 10-11" fish on a 6-10' flat near the 64 bridge. It was strange to have a giant, dead calm lake to ourselves. It was fun. Raleigh Parks lake tomorrow morning (along with thunder, wind, and rain) then dry off, and all three of us will head to the Natural Science museum in the afternoon.
Thanks for the report Crat...
I posted a topic on the off topic forum...if you get a chance check it out. Its in your field of expertise.

I had fun showing my dad around the lake; but I didn't get the chance to show him any of the 2+ lb giant crappie that live there.
