I and a friend from work went out for some crappie today and had a great time. He had never broke the 1 lb mark for crappie--but blew it away tonight! The hump was red hot for the first hour. Charlie caught the 4 largest fish of the evening...including personal doubles (15.25"=2.28 lbs; 14.5"= 1.89 lbs).
Two nice fish came off the pvc and a few off a spot that normally produces 10-12" fish--this time, we pulled 5 consecutive fish 11.75-13.75"...including one that appeared to be full of eggs. Go figure. She was 11.75 and 1.09 lbs!
Again, I want to wish everyone an independent 4th of July! Count each one as if it were your last!
I'll post to big fish pics in the next couple days.
good job jeremy....

First, a personal best...17" !! Not quite my heaviest, and still no 3lb club, but wow--so that's what one looks like! I called my parents to give them the news. My mom reminded me that I was only a couple inches longer when I was born. She would say that.
Now the story...The fish and game officer was checking licenses and moving from boat to boat. He approached my boat just a couple minutes after I landed doubles 2.80 lbs and 1.72 lbs. I had just plopped the smaller of the two back in the lake, but he was off plane as I was putting the second, much larger fish into the lake. He couldn't believe I would let something like that go. He offered to give it a better home (in his frypan) and I agreed. I caught a 1.94 lb slab about a minute after he left, so I gave him that one as he was pulling his massive patrol boat out. I didn't catch his name, but he is certainly a nice guy (although he is a green carp fisherman). He will appear in big fish pics--if you see him, he is one of the good guys.
Most of the action was on minnows, but there was some interest in jigs. The crappie haven't hit a long-shank jig hook since spring...only short shank.
Also, I found a second hump today! It's smaller and less defined, but it was good for a couple quick 1.25ish fish. Hey--it's one more spot! A couple came off the pvc as well.
I'm about to prepare some big fish pics...including one very uncommon shot!
17"=2.80 lbs
Great job Jeremy.....it won't be long now....just think if these still had eggs. The three pound club is coming.
nice going jeremy!!! sounds like you always have them tuned in!!!

No pot-bellied pomoxis to report this time. The fish were where they were supposed to be. They were just smaller. I caught 15 crappie and all of them were 10"+ but nothing approaching 2 lbs. The winds were from the east, and the weather was unseasonably cool. Did that shut off the big bite? Most came off hump 1, a couple from hump 2 and a couple from the PVC. That's all I had time to fish--I had to work the next day after all. It's Trillium seed collection season! Hey, it was a good day! I had fun!
Now that I've been a member of Crappie.com for over a year, it is really interesting to look back at the posts a year ago. Monday will be exactly one year since quick report #2. I'll give a comparative report.
good job crat...keep the reports coming.
Crat, I would pay good hard earned money to sit in a boat with you all day. Not for the crappie (that would be a bonus) but just to learn everything there is to know about plants and fungi.. Love It!!!
Take care
