We use a two-jig setup with a 3/16 or 1/8 on the bottom jig and the top jig usually a 1/16 or 1/32 at .8 mph. Use the electronics to see what depth the fish seem to prefer and then either vary your speed or jig weight to get you bait in the strike zone.
Saturday was interesting because the majority of competitors were tight-lining minnows while three of us were pulling jigs. There is no right or wrong, just what do you prefer and what will catch the big fish. One thing I know for certain, when you are throwing 1.2 lb. fish back in the water because they are too small, it's a good day to be crappie fishing.
