    Default New fish finder

Looking to upgrade to a gps/fish finder. Can anyone give some pro and cons of a down scan versus side scan. Been looking at both hummingbirds and lowerance. Can anyone recommend one? Thanks

I have two on my boat,Elite 5 DSI with GPS,and an Elite 5 color with GPS.for trolling speeds DSI does not work well.boat is going too slow.DSI will not work with Minkota transducer in Terrova motors,If I had to have only one it would not be DSi.I also have a lake Insite card in bow unit,Navionics in console unit, both are good but very different.Lake Insite card draws a solid blue line for creek channels, and its very accurate big help when looking for crappie.

I bought Lowrance HDS 9 gen 3 with down and side imaging. Used it for the first time this past Tuesday. Works beyond what I was expecting! Went by some fallen trees and the side imaging drew a perfect picture. So far I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I got the Helix DI and like it. I've only used it on the water twice.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

I bought one, and I will tell you the same as I was told and didn't want to listen, save your money, buy bigger,
at least a 999. Things are so small on screen, hard to tell what anything is. Very good unit for the money, but too small

I just put a humminbid 999ci hd si on my boat this year and couldn't be happier. I definitely wouldn't get any smaller than an 899. Humming bird is also running a $200 mail in rebate on the 999 right now

Ended up buying a garmin 53dv this weekend from basspro. If yall need a new the guy that works is a good guy to talk to and ask question. He spent about an hour explaining the different models to me. The garmins gps seemed to have more detailed maps without having to buy a map card

I use a HB 899 and get excellent performance, although the DI is obtained from the SI data and is not as clear as dedicated DI. Go for the largest screen that your pocketbook can handle, you won't regret it.
