Weather looked good for an evening walleye bite on lake James and I had a bucket-ful of shiners from Saturday, so I loaded up the boat and headed out solo. I had heard of reports in the past where they were caught in deep water this time of year (80-100ft) so I did some searching near the dams. I didn't see much on the Catawba side so I went over to the Paddy Creek dam. I stopped on some marks with bait above which turned out to be trees (still learning to read SI/DI). Ended the evening in front of the Islands at Linville in 115 fow. Found a couple marks suspended at 40-60 ft. so stopped and fished there. The only bite of the day came when I reeled the minnow up to an especially hungry looking arch at 40 ft. Never got the hook into the fish and pulled up a scale-less shiner, (probably a dink smallie). first time in awhile I have been skunked on James, but I guess thats the name of the game when looking for Walleye. I'm not sure how succesfull their renewed attempts at stocking have been.
