    the most common type of minnow sold at bait stores (what people call crappie minnows) are fatheads...some call them tuffys....at the pet store they are called rosy reds, they max out at about three inches long if let live that long..........the larger "bass minnows" are usually golden shiners, which can get up to 12"

    I think many bait shops in this part of the country use small shiners. I'm pretty sure a shiner is a member of the goldfish family.
    I only fish the two best days of the year, when its raining and when its not!
