So...when it was cold and snowing at camp in May....why couldn't you control your scent then?!

It's easy to get fired up , when a big un' is still on his summer pattern . Probably my best shot to kill him is early in the season .

I like those first few weekends, too. deer are not near as spooky and way predictable. but I also don't want to educate the deer on my gun- hunting property so I focus hunting on conservation ground. strap a climbing stand to your back, put your nose to the wind and start walking until ya see good, fresh sign, then set up accordingly.

I did the same thing when I lived in Tn. , but I have 3 different private tracts to hunt here , so I can keep from burning out my best spots before the rut . The spot where I have pics. Of the big buck is only good until they harvest the crops . , just based on the property and the way it lays . Some of my thier spots are better during the rut because they have better doe bedding areas , and late season food sources .

It was to damn cold to walk to the bathroom. Smart jazz :
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

You MUST be talking about Kearneys favorite son Joedog. I recall you having to fetch him from the showerhouse at camp. Laying NAKED on the floor, face down in the showerhouse; when you picked him up, thought you guys were doing a remake of Brokeback Mountain. Hey, not my cup of tea, but it was 2 consenting adults and none of my business.
