Default more Big Muddy big times!

went out friday after work to try for some more whisker fish, no luck. not even a bite. with the recent high water and then fast falling waters, that's no real surprise.... so today I headed out with bow in hand for some carp patrol, trying to catch fish vacating the creeks as the water recedes. just as I thought the silvers and bigheads were flocking out of the creeks. we saw and shot at a ton of fish, but our accuracy wasn't the best. in the end we managed to bring home 32 carp, (mostly asians, but a few nice grassies) and a few nice longnose gar, too. was a great afternoon on the river with my daughter and some friends! Danny, some of the grass carp and asian carp are saved for cut bait for me and some friends, the rest go to my neighbor for his garden.
the gar are actually a fine meal, you get 2 "tenderloin" strips of meat from each fish. although a bit tough to get through the skin to get to the meat, it's well worth it if the gar is over 2ft long. gar-fish nuggets fried up with garlic, onions, mushrooms, and bacon...Mmmmm!!!!

Every time I cross the Missouri River, I think about it. Looking forward to a lesson? Looks like you had a really good time. I remember hearing about gar fish balls on swamp people. The two older gentlemen fixed them. It was quite the cuisine... Nice mess of fish, looks like a fun time.....

Nice job.Went last weekend when river was cresting and I got 1 bite and husband 0. We put in at Beouff Creek. Didn't even try this weekend with the way the water is. did go to local conservation lake just to get away and wet a line. Took about 4 hours but we both caught 4 bass apiece. Nothing big enough to keep. At least it was a tug on the line. It is getting so full of weeds that it is getting hard to fish and get around in.

I'll be calling you guys around the end of the dog days, cats will be on the nest soon and the fishing will suck for a while. soon as summer breaks it's game on!

too bad you didn't get on some better fishing, I heard that lake wasn't worth the drive again this year.... hopefully this river stabilizes soon, been tough to fish the last few weeks.
