Default Anyone know where I could get some old salt shot shells?

Back in the day when I deer hunted we could buy these shells with salt in them, then when I would make a 1000 yd. shot , it would help preserve the meat until I could get to it.........

they had shells ??thought maybe you just poured it down the end of the barrel

A gun, like any other source of power, is a force for either good or evil, being neither in itself, but dependent upon those who possess it

I just open the end of the shell and dump out shot, then refill with rock salt......I'm sure someone will say that isn't a 'safe' practice tho, so the usual disclaimers apply!

salted shells? back long ago we were killing lots of ducks and needed to go out and get something to eat cause the flight was on and we needed to be on the river. one man told me to bring him back a box of shells. i sat at a table and emptied the shot out of nearly all the shells in that box and replaced it with salt and closed the crimp back up. he could not figure out why he wasn't hitting the ducks that afternoon. we never told him.

Grandpa Maxwell always had some for stray dogs. Hit them in the rear and they would head for the pond which just made it worse for them. We had a German Shepard that liked to chase cars on the gravel road that got it once also. Cured him for a long time. I drove the truck and my brother rode in back and have him a blast from the 12 gauge. Forgot all about all that until your post. Grandpa had a special Swisher Sweet cigar box with those shells in it. He also had some old 12 gauge and 410 shells in it that were made of some kind of paper or cardboard instead of the plastic. Good memories.

In Arkansas, if you sneak into some farmers ponds they will shoot at ya and you can be 100% sure there is salt flying through the air. Never got hit, but you'd hear it spray across the ground or hit the trees as you high tailed it back to where you came from.
The best way to get to where you want to be in the future is to act like you are there TODAY.

We used that saying on a guy I used to work with, every year his deer kept getting further and further away, so we asked if he put some salt in there to preserve the meat till he could get to'em..... I be damed if the next year he added another 100 yards........

I did my share of loading salt into shells back in the day.

Those old paper loads are worth some money to a collector.
