Pulling out of BS ramp Saturday, nice aluminum boat next to me pulling out, driver in the boat and driver in the tow vehicle. Someone failed to realize that aluminum boats don't stick to the trailer like fiberglass boats. As they started to pull out the boat slid off the trailer and by the time the driver stopped half of the boat was on the trailer and half was on the ground along with the lower unit. Driver panics, puts it in reverse and grinds the boat and engine back in the water. Ouch!
Hopefully no damage.

If he "ground" it back into the water there IS damage, probably not enough to break it but it damaged it
I watched my brother do that with a big old cabin cruiser he bought and worked over so he could turn a bit of profit on it, it was on a roller trailer and he unhooked it at the top of the ramp. Luckily he was launching it with his tow truck so we put a strap around it and winched it back up on the trailer. Luckly.

Bummer, tough lesson to learn the hard way.

Something similar to that can happen when the winch strap breaks and you don't have a safety strap on it either. Don't ask how I know this.![]()
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
A lot of Northern fishermen spray their bunks with silicone in the winter to keep the boat from sticking to them. They will slide off the trailer on the ramp if unhooked!!!

I guess i better not unhook the boat at the top of the ramp before i back it down.
