Default Trotline tied to a bouy

Yep. Saw 1 tied to a green bouy in the Missouri River main channel. It was tied to the top and wasn't hard to see. Besides being illegal to tie anything to a bouy It would be REALLY DANGEROUS to run that thing. The current is to strong to mess with anything like that.

idiots! never know what you will see out on the water. one time I saw a guy trying to ride a bouy like a cowboy rides a bull. no pfd, no common sense. I wish there was more law out on the water.

Doesn't surprise me at all. The total disregard of what's right is a serious problem in this country. When I launched at Windsor Crossing Sunday morning I couldn't help but see and smell the large filleted catfish some idiot/idiots had left on the top post of the HANDICAP boarding ramp. No excuse for such flagrant stupidity!
Of course I discarded the carcass into the dumpster.

There are natural laws, studied and documented by Darwin himself. They settle the balance and score for those that do stupid.

the guy who set the line may not have known it was illegal......Most people don't until they're cited for it.

as far as running a trot line in swift current, that all depends on the persons level of experience and comfort levels. No different that operating a vessel at night.

Some can do it safely, some kaint.....

To an extent yes, but that doesn't make them an idiot for it.

And there is a big difference between being ignorant of a law and ignoring a law.

Besides, there are too many laws to know all of them. I highly doubt that any of us can recite every fishing, boating, or traffic law that is currently written in the books.

You are right. Tying to a navigational bouy makes one a moron.

Not trying to pick a fight, but if anyone does not have the sense not to do that they are dangerous to others and themselves and deserve the darwin award that is coming to collect.

I agree with beagle, its your own fault if ya break a law. weather you knew it was a law or not, we all make our own decisions. not knowing a law is not what makes a person an idiot. I think it's the choices they make that reflect what kind of sense they have.
attaching a trot line to a channel bouy just sounds like a bad plan, a potential Darwin award for sure.

    Lol....Really?

For someone who seems so concerned with that law, can you tell me one instance in which a trotline that was tied off to a buoy has caused damage, injury, or inconvenience to anyone or anything? I've never heard of it happening in 20+ years of running the Mississippi, and there is probably 3 times the amount of markers on it than there are on the Missouri. I'm not saying there isn't a good cause for the law, but I sure haven't heard of it. And, if the C.O.E. is so danged concerned about their markers, you'd think they'd keep better track of them.

You call a guy an idiot and a moron for not knowing a law that quiet frankly, most others don't either. It's not mentioned anywhere in the annual fishing brochure published by Missouri, nor the Wildlife Game Code booklet, nor can it be found through a cursory search of the C.O.E. Federal Regulations guidance.

Btw, I'm not trying to pick a fight either, just calling you a bit self-righteous...
