I'm definitely going to have fun fishing, but hope the morels are still OK around KC late next week. I'd love to know how it goes over the weekend.
I'm going out again tomorrow . I'll be sure to give a report . It's going to be hot the next few days . We need more rain and cooler temps or it will dry them up.

    So....do tell!

I married a dandy, that's for sure. I went to hang out with some guys and grill up some meat while Miss Sherie and one of her girlfriends went mushroom hunting for the first time. I've gone a couple times and always came back empty handed so when I got home she got to brag a little.

    so....are these "whites" or what?

And...after soaking them do we just sautee them in butter or bread 'em and fry 'em? I've never had them before, but heard a lot of great things.

Doing better than I am. I have been out for about 5 hours total the lat two days and think I was lucky if I had a dozen combined between both hunts. Gave to the father-in-law for supper this evening. May have to hit it again next weekend after it cools off some. Hopefully we get a little rain this week and have some better luck.

I don't soak at all, and the best way to cook, IMO, is to coat with an egg wash, dip in cracker crumbs and deep fry for just 3-4 minutes. Just rinse before cooking. Better yet, I'll just cook those up for you if I get to help eat em!!

Joedog, to each their own, I soak awhile and then cut lengthwise in two-- wash the dirt and bugs off them. I either do the egg and flour or milk and flour, season the flour to tast,,,,,,, fry like crappie, I like them crispy, just like my fish fillets. Others like them a bit more rare--- either way works.

I soak them at least over night then egg wash and roll them in finely crushed saltine cracker and fry till brown.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

That's a great mess of mushrooms Joe .. tell your wife I'm jealous!

Anybody having any luck this week? I've been gone for a few days and haven't had a chance to get out. I'd love to hear any reports from around KC.

I was fishing at LOZ over the weekend and when we went to leave the boat trailer by the cabin, I glanced up in the woods and spotted a couple of morels. Long story short, we picked 80 morels in about 10 minutes .. it was incredible! I went back that evening after fishing and found another 60 or so. Had crappie & morels for dinner last night .. best meal ever!
