You can cut with the top, but if reaching very far up in the tree it takes a lot of effort. I also prefer to make a cut on the under side of larger limbs to keep them from splintering, but higher limbs you end up cutting kinda from the sides instead of straight up or down so it can get dicey in a hurry!

Ok question for you, can you cut with the top part of the bar like a normal chainsaw? Or is it to hard to hold up with the pole? When I use a chainsaw I always cut up below the limb if I want to take good care of the tree before I cut the limb off.

I figured that if you got it pinched you would turning blue or in my case red! LOL!
