If this is the approach we are taking, then there should be a guy at every ramp with a clicker. After x number of anglers come through, turn the rest away.
If you look up crappie fishing on YouTube, every video is king crappie of Sardis, giant lake Washington crappie, huge slabs of Grenada. It's the publicity being put out there. But the limits are set to protect the lake from being overfished. If it was only a 10 fish limit, folks would still come. They're the best lakes in the world for crappie fishing.
I don't think the fishing guides are the reason for the limit going down.

I know of 4 folks who guide Washington now sending in emails to have a 12" length limit and 15 fish limit put into place. I'm on board with this.Quote:

What type of training are you referring to? Boaters ed, fishing technique, ethics, cpr?

There isn't a guide on these lakes that can afford guide insurance if he isn't guiding everyday. Just regular old boat insurance won't cover you guiding. The insurance is very high dollar, and not feasible if guiding during the spawn. I checked on insurance, and believe me it is high.
Also if you are talking about a coast guard captain's license, you'll really opening up a big can of worms.
I say everyone should eat more chikin'.. crappie are smelly and fishy tasting.
Lol, I agree a license would be a good thing for increased revenue for the state. As far as insurance I say do it at your own risk, I figured a waiver would need to be signed before boarding the vessel, there are some clumsy, accident prone people out there. My only thing is, this wouldn't be a tactic from well established guides to keep the newcomers out would it? Not accusing anyone, just curious. Maybe too much competition in the guide business now possibly? I dunno..

I remember there being a snack bar/store that sold bait by the spillway at Butla and Nader. At Sardis it was by the lower lake boat ramp, they rented boats too. Can't remember anything like that at Enid. The COE shut them down. Can't make money on a COE lake. If the COE wants to shut the guide business down they could without a problem.
Commercial and guide license should be about the same.
I'm going to pass on this one. I do believe Guides should be required to have certain rules to follow. Although a limit is a limit, who ever catches them.
So how many guide licenses have you bought? Enforcement is the key and towns around these lakes you speak of will not want anything to hurt the guide business.Quote:
