    Default Choctaw lake

I went to Choctaw lake today and caught 1 keeper. Got there around 1:30 and around 3:30 I noticed schooling shad on the surface all over the place and the feeding began! That's when I caught that one crappie, since they were hitting the shad at the surface I decided to fish 4 ft deep and caught him off a brushtop. I was fishing from the bank but I know it was a brushtop because I got hung. today marks my second visit to Choctaw my first day, which was yesterday, I caught a few small fish around 7-10 ft. Any advice on how I can land more fish and bigger fish as well? I don't have a boat so I'm without the electronics that will allow me to locate fish more precisely. I know the deepest part of the lake is only 15-16 ft based off the map from mdwf.

That's a tuff little lake. It has a good population of small crappie with a few big'uns in the mix. I used to bass fish there some and would almost always catch a big crappie while casting 3/4 oz rattle traps around the deeper brush. I heard they were supposed to drain and rebuild the lake soon. You can catch some good numbers along the rocks of the levy during early spring using minnows and cork.

The first day I went there was a guy bank fishing for crappie not too far from me and he told me that the spring gets pretty hot he told me he usually catches his fair share of big crappie around the 2lb range in March and April. He told me he never had much luck in the fall, every blue moon he might luck up with a mess of nice fish but he said the spring is when the big boys move in. Which I already knew but I figured I could reach em in the fall with a slip bob and long casts. That's interesting that you said they were gonna restructure the lake soon. An older gentleman that works there was talking to me the other day and he told me roots from some of the trees close to the bank have been causing the pipes to bust and they had been wondering where some of the water was going
