I think bait casters have an advantage over spin reels in ease of letting more line out. I keep my drags pretty loose and if I need to let out more line just pull out against the drag with no line twist, line twist is the major problem with spinners to me. As far as mine being turned down, no line is touching the pole only the eyes and to my way of thinking less chance of the line getting hung up on the pole, but its what ever floats your boat.
