    Default Trolling shallow?

How shallow do you spider rig? And how do you change your rig to adjust? As I look to fishing shallower in the coming weeks I though maybe I should ditch the double-minnow rig and go with a single jig head. Or is it better to just switch to a single pole and leave the spider rig setup for later?

I will push a single jig in shallow water in the spring. The main thing is to keep as quiet as possible. Turn off electronics, aerators, etc and only use the trolling motor sparingly when necessary. I've seen fish create a wake across the surface with their dorsal fins attacking a shallow running jig.

I caught a few fish yesterday that I could see swirl hitting my top jig in 2-3 fow. I ran a double rig, but could have honestly ran a single some times because the top hook was barely in the water. Quiet is the key as speck said, which is tough in a tin boat.

Speck & Mo Money are right on, besides the top hook hardly ever produces fish.

I will either use a 1/16 and a split shot about 8" above it or a 1/8 if it is calm and a 3/16 if needed. Yesterday I kept 22 from 2.5 fow.

Put all the spider rigging stuff away for a few weeks and do some pole fishing.Nothing compares to having that pole in your hand when a big fish nails it.
