The deals that you see hanging on the sides of the boat with all the chain and hooks hanging off them. Called Brails is that and will keep a good man busy working those things. Each metal hook had 4 prongs and each prong has a ball on the end. Those are curved like a treble hook. That ball and bend keeps the shells holding on. Used to get on the water at 9 am and off the water by 3 pm. And a good day was $200+ bad day $100+ sure wish I could still make a living doing it. As I had time to fish and hunt all I wanted doing that and Commercial fishing.

I know you had to brail in KY, but could dive in TN. Some dove in KY tho. :-)

I have one 60" and it does no good. But also have a pair of chains and use them more then socks.

Wilbur, if you are using your big motor for cranks then a couple of 5 gallon buckets will do the trick. PM Feelay, that what he does and it works nicely. Hurts your feelings when the prop eats a sock.

Pretty simple the way he does it, 2 buckets in the back of the truck with a big hole in the bottom of both and a rope handle tied in 2 holes at the top of the bucket. Throw em in the boat at the ramp, get to where you gonna fish, throw em out.

Will the buckets drop me a MPH do ya think.

I do, they hold that 250 hp of Feelays back.

I would rather stay with the socks, they fold up and you can store anywhere in the boat.

I got a couple socks at Academy for $15 each. They aren't real big, but were a bargain and do work. On an 18ft excel in about a 12-15mph wind, they got me exactly at .5 using 2 of them. They probably would be fine for slowing down an outboard for cranking.

Just checked again...the 36's are 15 bucks. 30's are 13.
