Nice week pulling crankbaits at Okatibbee
I just returned from a week camping at Okatibbee. I had a good week fishing around the thunderstorms and the vast majority of my fish were caught pushing and pulling crankbaits around the creek channels and channel bends down around the dam. The channel banks were in around 17 feet of water. I caught 109 crappie (did not keep nearly that many because my freezer was already full and I had to leave a few for Scott & Steve) and 7 channel cats mostly on Bandit 300 lures. I did catch my longest crappie out of Okatibbee at 16 inches and caught 6 at least 15 inches. I tried jigging and spider rigging jigs and even caught a few pushing jigs while pulling crankbaits, but the majority were caught pushing & pulling crankbaits. Colors included the normal, pinks, blacks, oranges & chartreuse and the best was Grizzly Jigs Pink;Silver Glow. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures but we had a good time.
PS - If anyone catches a black gar with a Mad Cow colored Bandit stuck in its' side, please return the lure, it was my wife's favorite. -- (You can keep the gar)
Thanks dad for teaching me to love crappie fishing!!
