    There are things that will work.
    Campsuds Soap with Citronella - 4 oz. at REI.com
    Amazon.com: Bug Off Synergy. Essential Oil Blend. 10 ml (1/3 oz). 100% Pure, Undiluted, Therapeutic Grade. (Blend of: Citronella, Eucalyptus, Cedarwood, Lemongrass, Lavender, Litsea, Tea Tree, Patchouli & Catnip): Health & Personal Care
    You might rub some Torch Fuel Citronella into your cap and collar.

    The whites gnats are bad at reelfoot too. I found this on the net and it works, get some therapeutic lavender oil, pure vanilla extract and some lemon juice mix it up in a spray bottle and spray on. They still fly around the boat but at least you dont eat em for lunch. 15 to 20 drops of oil, 2 table spoons of vanilla and 1/4 cup of juice in 20 ozs of water.

    Put a 5th if your favorite bourbon in the boat and take a swig every 15-20 minutes. You will not notice them at all.
