To ad to BigOrangeSlab's report, actually we never fished for the shell cracker nor did I ever put out the first cricket. We went into the area where we was told some beds where but I spotted some boat slips close and thought, man there have to be some crappie around all that. I was wrong.None was there that I could find. We did throw several jigs/bobby garlands and nothing. I did notice some other boats out in the area though and didn't notice anybody catching anything but bass. We decided to run down river where we settled into a cove and bass fished for a good while.I had two different fish on that I didn't get into the boat. One was a huge crappie early that I seen but my 6 lb line broke as he was close to the boat. He was a huge crappie and I was sick for about 30 minutes. Then later in the day I had something hit my bobby garland ghost and jig and I never seen it but it acted as a very nice bass. It hung me up in a tree top and I lost it.We had a great day relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. I took some screen shots on my depthfinder that showed fish but we was unable to talk them into biting. Tracy fished for some bream off a bream bed and was having some fun and success, when this one nice bream he was bringing to the boat was hammered by this very nice largemouth. We both seen it and that would have made a very interesting story if we could have landed that. He sensed something wasnt right and turned that bream loose.
The reason for the trip was Tracy wanted to get on some shell cracker and I got crappie fever and didnt take time to find any. I'm Sorry ole buddy.
gonecrappiefishing, I was just telling NJhunter the other day about those bass. I caught a couple decent bass on crickets while bream fishing. I asked him if he had ever had a big largemouth come up and try to swallow his bream while reeling it in. He told me no and I just wondered if he was secretly thinking I was lying. It was not 20 minutes after that when he was reeling in a bream and had a bass try to take it. The bass never got it in its mouth but he now knows about it. I have hung on to some bass 10 pounds and better. I still have yet to land one that way though. Most of the time they never get the hook and ater a battle with me trying to reel them in, they either let go or they break my line. I only use 6 pound line. I have even had them to try and get small strip before. Sometimes it will scare the brown stuff out of you when you are about to pull a fish right up to the boat and a big bass grabs it then when you are not expecting it. I wish I did not have so much going on this week or I would be out fishing every day for those bream. Glad yall had a good time.
