As promised here's our Sunday fishing report.
70*, no wind, water temp 81*. We hit birdbanders least favorite Ionia County lake today, the one with nice fish but an insane pleasure boat crowd. We had lines set by shortly after 6 under a funky looking sky and had our first crappie within a few minutes. I hit the counter and returned it to the water. It was a nice fish but we weren't keeping today so back it went. This was repeated again and again and again and after one trip around the lake we had caught and released 34 nice fish. As we started our second loop the water fleas, ski boats and wake boats came out to play making things a bit tougher. Add the gill fishermen anchored along the weed edges and it got tricky staying on our track but 3/4 of the way around we hit #50. Add the dozen or so bass and the same number of gills plus the crappie we lost bring them to the boat and we had a real good day. We were back on the trailer by 2pm feeling good about the day even if Jeff did get yelled at by a gill fisherman for trolling too close(we weren't too close). 1/16 jigs with a variety of 2" plastics, color didn't matter. All the gills and 99% of the crappie were keeper size.
