Edible and delicious. I usually pick them when they are 6-8 inch diameter. Slice them 3/8 thick, remove the rind, dip in egg/milk mixture then flour and fry in butter over medium till they are golden brown on both sides. Salt and pepper to taste.
I thought I ill stick with De-boned Venison Rib meat........

My oldest brothers second wife use to collect and cook up those puffballs, I was skeptical the first time she made them......didn't see her die off from eating them so the next time she made them I tried one.....then another one. Yep they are good. Morel mushrooms weren't as common in the UP as they are down here in the lower but there were fair numbers of a mushroom we called a "beefsteak"
Brothers second wife didn't stick around too long and divorced my brother after a few years.....she was awarded a sum of $$$ on what she might inherit one day, which is funny since that was 40 years ago and my dad is still alive so my brother hasn't inherited anything yet. I heard she used the money to buy some damm horse, I'm sure the horse has died.
The puffballs were good but the fresh brussel sprouts were awesome! This is the first time I've planted them and they will be in my garden from now on.
Steve, I hope she ate a mushroom that gave her the squirts. That would teach her to be a money grubber.
