Don, I had a second tank in my Dodge Truck. It was a gravity feed and worked well. Problem was, where it bolted down to the bed of the truck all the vibration and bouncing around cracked the tank. I would make sure you have it secured well top & bottom. This was back in 2001
Jury is still out on which style I will put in. I have some time as I wont do anything until spring. I like the idea of the gravity feed as it keeps things simple, and after 40+ years in the maintenance field, I know the value of simplicity! ;)
The RDS brand of tanks has you install them with some neoprene strips under the tank and some "shock absorbing" anchors to address the issue you ran into.
Funny you mention that Don.
I see a ton of F250 trucks around (lake 90's and early 2000's) that have had tanks mounted in the box (near the cab). They use them to fuel heavy equipment and machines on the farm. In many instances, the box support brackets are broken completely from the frame. You look at the box and it slopes towards the cab.
Yeah, those guys use their trucks like trucks are meant to be used...I use mine like a girl :)

I would be careful with that one! I could have gone a few directions but erred on the side of "family friendly" site! :yikes
Ford had a big problem with the cross supports under the box rusting out. My daughter had a 04 f-350 diesel that the oil pan rested out.
I'm not a Ford vs. Chevy, paper vs. plastic, live bait vs. artificial person.... but I am a 1ply vs. 2 ply guy any day of the week. One ply is truck stop material and should only be used in extreme situations!
