Here on Houghton Lake, there is a lot of crazy things going on with the crappie spawn. I caught a good mess of big specks yesterday, and there was no real rhyme or reason as to where they were or why they were there. I only landed a couple fish that had eggs still, but I don't know if that meant a lot of them have already spawned or that I was mainly catching males. I know that there were bass already making beds and the majority of the specks were in deeper water again, rather than in the typical spawning areas they were in a couple weeks ago. The bluegills were in by the hundreds, with lots of them being nice mature gills. In my lifetime of fishing Houghton Lake and the surrounding areas, this same situation has occurred several times and was usually a case of the crappie spawn winding down and the bluegill spawn getting ready to start. One of the other things I noticed, which for me, is usually an event toward the end of the crappies spawn, is that the largemouth bass have come in and some of them are already sitting on beds. Now I now this is early for the bass, but it is something that I have observed over the years and seems to make sense to me. All I know is that I am currently unemployed, with a lot of free time on my hands, so I pity the fish in Houghton Lake. bwahahahahha Good luck this summer John.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D

Hey John, the water temp up here was 54 last week. Been in the 30's the last 3-4 nights, still having a wood fire at night.
